It causes me to wonder WHY the self-doubt; and who WE are? Perhaps a sense of loss at coming home; leaving those you met behind? Is a difficult thing to get past: our inability to save everyone. You've done good; you will continue to; just let it happen.

in my coworker's window sill rest smoothed out shards of glass from the bering sea. they look a lot like the treasure stones in grenada. i must wait until the sea unthaws to discover new alaskan shards of glass for myself. but something in me believes they exist. even though the idea of a beach seems unfathomable in these blizzardy moments. may you continue this search for beauty. for wholeness. amidst broken glass.

I read your writings both here and on your other site with a sence of sadness. I have been there also; however, for much shorter times, and much less involved; but, the people are so welcoming and genuinely warm that it saddens me to be here in Canada. For me the Phils truly are Paridise on earth. Although people here are warm, it is a gaurded warmth. Not so there. I miss life there. You have such an expressive way of expressing yourself, and drawing word images. You are gifted in many ways. God bless. Hopefully we'll both return.

I have to disagree with one aspect for this post:

It is vital that you NOT give up on change. Things have pretty much gone to hell in a handbasket politically, here, but I truly believe that it's important that you continue to push people here to recognize that there is much to be gained by supporting the dignity of human life all over the globe.

The process here is slow, to be sure. But I see commercial sites supporting causes like yours increase in number consistently. Where there were no voices, now there are few. I believe that you can make a chorus of them, a strong one, but you must not give up.

Onward.

(Forgive the terrible music analogy.) :-)

Yes, it is sad to say but indigenous rights always come second when natural resources are at stake. We can help by boycotting those mining companies and making the indigenous peoples situation known to a wider audience.

I wanted it to feel a little more universal, hence choosing grammar over gender. I'm hoping to start a movement in which words like him, himself, and his before gender neutral again to save us all the awkward his/her deal.

Shouldn't your subtitle read: "A missionary does not go out to change the hardship she sees, but rather in seeing the hardship, changes herself."?

I don't even know which entries of yours to comment on, Lindsey. The all blow me away. But I'll pick this one, just to say:

Amen. Amen. Amen.
